Local masons, straight answers
Masons who match the mortar to the brick, rebuild what is failing rather than smear over it, and know when a wall is a structure.
About Nashville's Masonry
Nashville's Masonry is a masonry contractor serving Nashville and 64 more towns across 12 counties of Middle Tennessee — and we stake our name on how the work goes.
Masonry is the trade where the wrong mortar destroys a wall slowly and the caulk gun hides it for a year. Our masons match the mortar to the masonry, cut out and repoint rather than skim, and treat a chimney or a retaining wall as the structure it is.
What we do
- Match the mortar. Lime for old brick, Portland for modern, colored to the existing joint; the wrong one cracks the brick, not the mortar.
- Cut out before repointing. Failed joints are ground out to depth and repacked; a skim coat over old mortar falls off in two winters.
- Flash with the roofer. Chimney and wall flashing is cut into the joint and coordinated with the roof, because that is where the leaks are.
What we will not do
- Repoint old brick with hard mortar. It is irreversible and it spalls the brick; a mason who does not ask how old the house is has not thought about it.
- Caulk a mortar joint. Caulk is not mortar and it holds water behind it.
- Stack a wall over three feet without engineering. Above that a retaining wall carries real load, and it is designed and drained as one.
What we actually work on
What masonry contractors in Nashville build and repair, and what each job covers.
The masonry problems Middle Tennessee homeowners bring us most often:
- Mortar crumbling out
- Cracks in the brickwork
- Chimney leaning or leaking
- Bricks flaking and spalling
- Want an outdoor fireplace
- Steps or wall coming apart
Who does the work
Every mason on our crews carries liability insurance on file with us and works under the Tennessee contractor’s license the job value requires; the ones working on historic brick have done lime-mortar work on houses we can name.
Beyond the paperwork, the test is how somebody handles the part of a masonry job that does not go to plan — the honest call when the estimate has to change, and whether you hear about it before the work or after. The masons who stay with us are the ones who have passed that test on jobs we know about.
Why we do not publish reviews yet
No reviews on this site yet: a masonry company this new would be borrowing them, and brickwork is judged by the joint, which you can see for yourself.
Where we work
Masons working Nashville also cover Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville; the range is 65 towns across 12 counties. Each of the main cities has its own page — what its houses mean for masonry, who issues the permits, which neighborhoods are inside the run.
If you want to understand the work before you speak to anyone, our masonry guide covers what drives the price, what your options are and what a badly done job looks like — written so you can judge any mason in the region, including us.
Who we are
Michael Blair owns and operates Nashville's Masonry, and the words on these pages are his to answer for. They come from the mason’s trade practice, Tennessee code and the brick, stone and mortar makers’ own documentation, revised whenever those sources change, and he signs and dates every post. Nashville's Masonry stands behind every wall and chimney its masons touch, and they are licensed, insured and bound to the commitments listed above.
Ask any mason for proof: a Tennessee contractor’s license is verified at verify.tn.gov, you are entitled to see a certificate of insurance before scaffolding goes up, and your town’s permit office is on its city page.
